Hillcrest JROTC cadets take to the sky
May 4, 2007

Members of the Hillcrest High School Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) took to the sky Friday, May 4, courtesy of the Army National Guard which provided aviation orientation flights on a UH-60 “Blackhawk” helicopter.

The experience was designed to expose students to the flight side of the Army National Guard and help them overcome any apprehension to flying.

Some cadets, like senior Micah Ward, had previously flown in a military chopper. “As soon as you take off you can feel the energy rush,” said Ward, who plans to pursue a career in the military. “It’s like a roller coaster ride without rails.”
