Hillcrest ‘HTV Magazine’ staffers receive RFK journalism award
May 7, 2007

Hillcrest High School juniors Rachel Miles and Lillian Olive will receive the 2007 Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for high school broadcasting on Wednesday, May 23, in Washington, D.C. This is the sixth RFK Award for HTV in the last 10 years. No other school has more than one since high school broadcasts became eligible in 1998.

The two students are members of the "HTV Magazine" staff, a student-produced news program that has been shown on SPS channel 25 since 1989. The winning entry, "Thread of Hope," was about the PTA Clothing Bank. It includes interviews with volunteers, those who benefit from the free clothing provided by the bank, and a group of Hillcrest students who work at the bank learning job skills.

The students and their teacher, Dave Davis, will travel to Washington D.C.
to receive the award alongside the award’s professional winners, including Diane Sawyer from ABC News and author Douglas Brinkley.
