Bond update: Cherokee bid comes in under budget
June 18, 2007

Flintco’s construction bid for Cherokee Middle School came in nearly $600,000 below the original $12 million estimate. With school board approval of the bid on June 12, construction will begin this summer on the two-year project.

Cherokee is among 24 district schools to benefit from voter-approval in April 2006 of an 18-cent increase in the district’s debt service levy. The increase will raise $96.5 million to address air conditioning needs, overcrowding, school repairs and renovations and upgrades at three high school science and technology labs.

The addition of eight new classrooms at Wilson’s Creek 5-6 School is nearly complete. The projected $1.25 million project is expected to come in $365,000 under budget. Renovations and building additions at Weller Elementary School are nearly half complete. That project should be done by October or November.
