SPS students with perfect attendance ride in style
June 1, 2007

Students from Weaver and Mark Twain elementary schools and Pershing Middle School traveled in style this week from their schools to Papa John’s Pizza as winners of the Sixth Annual Ride and Dine for Perfect Attendance.

The event is sponsored by Papa John’s Pizza (a district Partner In Education) and Majestic Limousine as a year-long incentive to maintain perfect attendance.

Thirteen Weaver students and two teachers with perfect attendance loaded a limo on Thursday for their free pizzas. Fifty Pershing students and 32 Twain students got to ride and dine earlier in the week. The three schools had the highest percentage of students with perfect attendance among participating district schools.

“This is the one thing that gets my kids (motivated) for perfect attendance,” said Weaver Principal Janelle Andrus. “We start telling them about Ride and Dine from the first day of school.”

Mark Twain students have won free limo rides and pizza every year since the event started, said principal Janell Bagwell. “Students make perfect attendance a goal knowing we are working together to win the limo trip."

Pershing is the first district middle school to place in the top-three category, said Papa John’s area supervisor, Ken Cruce. He added that Pershing’s 50 students are the most ever from a single school to have perfect attendance in the contest.
