Central gets bronze ranking from ‘U.S. News & World Report’

Bronze RankingCentral High School received a bronze ranking by “U.S. News & World Report” and School Evaluation Services for meeting select academic and enrollment criteria.

According to “U.S. News & World Report,” the methodology in choosing America’s best high schools “is based on the key principles that a great high school must serve all its students well, not just those who are bound for college, and that it must be able to produce measurable academic outcomes that show the school is successfully educating its student body across a range of performance indicators.”

Academic and enrollment data from more than 18,000 high schools in 40 states was analyzed for 2005-06 before top schools (100 gold, 405 silver and 1,086 bronze) were selected. Central was among 29 Missouri public high schools to receive an award.

A three-step process determined the best high schools. The first two steps ensured that the schools serve all their students well, using state proficiency standards as the measuring benchmarks. For those schools that made it past the first two steps, a third step assessed the degree to which schools prepared students for college-level work.

“This is a great honor for the entire Central High School community,” said Central Principal Everett Isaacs. “Our staff has been committed to increasing student achievement by strengthening relationships between students and teachers. We constantly analyze data to monitor our strengths and deficiencies and provide flexibility to make changes that meet the needs of students.”
