Student Performance Results
Adequate Yearly Progress(AYP)
Adequate Yearly Progress measures the annual progress of schools and districts toward meeting the No Child Left Behind goal of all students demonstrating 100% academic proficiency by 2014. Academic proficiency is measured of all public school students as well as the following subgoups; economically disadvantaged students, students of major racial and ethnic groups, students with disabilities, students with limited English proficiency. The Springfield Public Schools Board of Education is committed to improved student achievement related to AYP; District Goal 1, Performance Indicator 1.
Missouri Assessment Program (MAP)
The State of Missouri requires students in grades 3 through 8 to complete MAP assessments in the areas of communication arts and mathematics. Students in grades 5 and 8 are required to complete a MAP assessment in the area of science. The MAP assessment measures and evaluates student progress toward meeting Show-Me Standards/Grade Level Expectation (GLE) strands, which include content and process standards.
Beginning in 2008-2009, MAP assessments at the high school level were replaced by End-of-Course assessments for the following courses: Algebra I, Biology I, and English II.
District -Wide Assessments
DRA, ELS, EMS, Explore, Performance Series, Plan, Terra Nova
The Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) is completed by students in grade 1. This District required assessment is used to identify student reading level.
The Emerging Literacy Survey (ELS) and the Emerging Math Survey (EMS) are required assessments for all kindergarteners. These assessments are designed to be administered as a one-on-one interview between teacher and students. The tests measure a student's progress toward the minimum standards of the SPS Communication Arts and Mathematics learning goals.
Explore results are used by middle school counselors to guide students in grade 8 when scheduling high school courses and considering career pathways.
Performance Series assessments are online, computer-adaptive tests that are both criterion-referenced and norm-referenced. Results from the assessments provide feedback down to the grade-specific objective level by student. Performance Series assessments are required by the district three times per year, (fall/winter/spring) for students in grades 3 through 8 in the areas of language arts, reading, and mathematics. For reporting purposes and MAP-predictive purposes, scores for language arts and reading are averaged to produce a communication arts calculated (CA calculated) score.
Plan is a District required assessment for students in grade 10. Results provide students with a measure of their current academic development.
The Terra Nova is required by the district for all students in grade 2. The scores from this assessment have been found to be indicative of a student's performance on the MAP. Scores are also used to identify student progress.
