Record number of ‘Back to School’ grants awarded

November 16, 2007

The Foundation for Springfield Public Schools awarded a record 92 grants this week to 39 Springfield Public Schools and district programs after the annual “Back to School with the Foundation” campaign raised $189,126.85.

Distribution began with a breakfast celebration Thursday morning at the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce before foundation volunteers fanned out across the district to surprise teachers and principals with grant awards.

Applications this year included requests for books, technology, field trips and attendance incentives as well as funding for drop-out prevention strategies and Character Education.

Money raised in the campaign funds the grants and helps each district school meet its School Improvement Plan (SIP) by providing $2 per student.

Here is a complete list of grants awarded.
