Bond project update: Weller opens new addition
October 18, 2007
“This is the best day of my life!” exclaimed one second-grade student as she and classmates got their first look at the sparkling new addition to Weller Elementary School Thursday.
The school received its certificate of occupancy earlier in the day on the $4 million project and students and staff wasted little time feeling at home in vibrant new classrooms, a new multi-purpose gymnasium, new office space and other learning areas now complete.
A ribbon cutting ceremony and tour of the new addition is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday Nov. 1. The public is welcome to attend.
Weller is among 25 district school construction and air conditioning projects being funded by a $96.5 million bond initiative approved by voters in 2006. Projects are proceeding on time and on budget - in some cases under budget - according to a recent report to the school board.
The first three projects completed (Weller, air conditioning at Jeffries Elementary School, and an eight-classroom addition at Wilson’s Creek 5-6 School) all came in under budget, thanks to good bids and good budget management.
