Dr. Peggy Riggs recognized for raising gang awareness

October 12, 2007

The Midwest Gang Investigators Association this week recognized Dr. Peggy Riggs, Associate Superintendent for Springfield Public Schools, for her tireless efforts at raising gang awareness in the community and spearheading district efforts to address gang problems.

Dr. Riggs led a community effort last year to address a growing presence of suspected gang members in and around some district schools. Her work contributed to a broader community conversation about gangs and heightened awareness of the potential problems gangs may pose in the area.

“I’m honored and humbled to receive this recognition,” said Dr. Riggs. “Our ultimate success against gang activity will require diligence throughout the community. We must continue to work together.”

Riggs was honored during a seminar sponsored by the MGIA, which held its annual conference in Springfield this week.
