District looking for teachers with passion for the outdoors
September 27, 2007
With the implementation next fall of the innovative Wonders of the Ozarks Learning Facility (WOLF), Springfield Public Schools is now looking for two uniquely qualified teachers whose professional abilities shine outside the traditional classroom. In fact, a love of the outdoors, rain or shine, is essential for this job.
Teaching applications are being accepted through Oct. 9 for WOLF, a science-based “SPS Choice” program that’s integral to the district’s new strategic plan, SP5. WOLF is one of several new programs planned by the district in response to public input gathered in the development of SP5.
Housed at the Wonders of Wildlife Educational Center at 500 W. Sunshine St., WOLF will provide 50-60 fifth-grade students with a comprehensive education and a focus on conservation science. Students and teachers will spend time in the field engaged in hands-on learning.
“Though we are in the early development of the WOLF program, I’m excited about the number of inquiries we’ve received from interested parents,” said district Assistant to the Superintendent, Dr. Chuck Stockton. “This program will allow the district to continue to provide students with a comprehensive education and a unique learning experience that builds long-term commitment to preserving the Ozarks’ natural resources.”
