June 30, 2009
The Springfield school board adopted the 2009-2010 operating budget Tuesday night. Included in the budget are a one-half percent salary increase for employees and increases for eligible employees who are pursuing advanced degrees.
The approved budget, comprised of $192.3 million in revenue and $192.9 million in expenditures, evolved during a lengthy budget development process. Ultimately, expenditures of more than $6 million were cut in order to reduce deficit spending in 2009-2010.
The district was able to include salary increases in the budget as a result of $1.02 million in stimulus money which freed up operating funds to pay salaries.
The budget projects fiscal year 2009-2010 will end with a fund balance of $20,613,663, down about $625,000 from the current fund balance.
