Board gives recognitions and reviews third quarterly report

The school board's May 5 study session began with celebrations of student achievements, successful district partnerships and recognition of district staff.
The board received program evaluations on K-5 Science, Business and Marketing Education and School Police Services. The district's third quarterly report was also presented. Quarterly reports and detailed student performance results are available here.
In other business:
- Engineering and architectural modifications for air conditioning projects at Bower man and Campbell elementary schools and Shady Dell Early Childhood Center were approved by the board.
- Springfield students were recognized for being selected to participate in the Missouri Scholars Academy and Missouri Fine Arts Academy this summer.
- Dr. Jason Anderson, Campbell Elementary School principal, was recognized as the National Missouri Distinguished Principal of the Year.
- Hillcrest and Kickapoo high schools' A+ coordinators, Jennifer Bishop and Leslie Calvert and Kickapoo principal David Schmitz and district A+ liaison Carol Brown were recognized for their efforts in making Hillcrest and Kickapoo A+ schools.
- The district's Middle College program housed at Ozarks Technical Community College was highlighted and students shared their positive experiences in the program.
- District bus driver David Leeper was recognized for calling for emergency assistance when he witnessed a young woman get thrown from a horse on Farm Road 159 while on his route last week.
