Elementary Math Introduction to Model Drawing November 2, 4:15-5:45, Tefft Elementary math teachers will strengthen their understanding in problem solving and the math they teach within the Everyday Math series. Model Drawing is an approach that emphasizes developing a strong understanding of the Number and Operations Strand, helping students develop a visual bridge to algebra. This session will be supportive and challenging in the introduction of Model Drawing with participants working together with an exciting presenter, Natalie Schwartz. Making Math Class Fun, for Secondary Math Teachers November 16, 3:30-5:00, Tefft Geared towards Algebraic Relationships, presenters will get a new twist on some old activities that are easy to incorporate into any math class (Football, Simon Says, Relay, Snowball Fight, Who Wants to be a Millionaire?). These activities were presented at Heather Hart's workshop #3. Presenters are Debbie Florez, Robin Jenkins and Stephanie Long. Participants should register by sending an email to Jennifer Renegar. Secondary Math Challenging Problems in Model Drawing November 21, 3:30-5:00, Tefft Secondary math teachers will further strengthen their understanding in problem solving and gain new ways to use Model Drawing strategies in rigorous, challenging problems. Join exciting presenter, Natalie Schwartz, in learning engaging ways to teach problem solving. This session is an extension of Curriculum Institute in August. Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics Fall Conference December 2 & 3, Columbia K-12 math teachers may attend the MCTM Annual Fall Conference, which will focus on Common Core State Standards, technology, assessment, and leadership. Other topics will also be offered. Interested teachers should send an email to Jennifer Renegar.
Curriculum Institute for Secondary Math Teachers, Follow Up December 9, 8:30-11:30, Tefft Secondary math teachers will participate in one of two assigned sessions in a follow up to the first part of Curriculum Institute on August 22. Sessions are "Modeling with Math" and "Assessment".
Secondary Math Training, Math Tools in Notebook for SMART Board February 13, 3:30-5:00, Tefft Secondary math teachers who have a SMART Board installed in their classroom may participate in a workshop to learn how to use the Notebook software add-on "Math Tools". Upon completing the training, each teacher will receive a Math Tools license for use on his/her computer. Participants should register by sending an email to Jennifer Renegar. Enrollment is limited.
Brain-Based Learning in Elementary Math April 6, 8:00-3:00, Tefft Elementary teachers who are interested in learning more about brain-based learning as it relates to math may engage in this training. Enrollment is limited to one teacher per building. Interested teachers may seek more information from Jennifer Renegar.
