Hello!  My name is Amy Schmitz, also known by the students as “Nurse Amy”.  I feel very privileged to be the school nurse at Harrison Elementary.  This is a wonderful place to promote health and wellness among the students and staff.  I love being a school nurse and taking care of the students at Harrison. 

My family and I moved to Springfield almost 10 years ago. I am married and have four children.  I love spending time with my family playing at Table Rock Lake, hiking, biking and fishing. I also really enjoy reading, scrapbooking and trying new recipes.

I graduated from nursing school at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1991. My job experiences before I was employed at Harrison, included being an oncology nurse in Columbia and a school nurse in Nevada, Missouri. 

The most important part of my job is to keep students healthy and safe at school.  I also want to promote open communication with parents, so they feel comfortable with how their students’ health needs are being met in the school setting.
