Getting Ready for Kindergarten

Continuous Classroom Improvement (CCI)

We are proud to be a Continuous Classroom Improvement (CCI) classroom, where students have input and ownership in the learning process!

Our goal this week (May 17th-21st)

Skip count by two's to 20.

The PDSA Cycle

Each week, we have a specific learning goal, or target objective. We go through the PDSA cycle as we focus on that goal. The PDSA cycle includes:

Plan (Monday):
Mrs. Lowe chooses the goal for the week. This is based on the needs of the students, and is aligned with our strategic learning goal. We talk about why we need to learn this skill.

Do (Monday-Thursday):
The students choose what strategies we would like to use to work on our goal, as well as how we will use those strategies. Some examples might include specific Cooperative Learning structures, working with manipulatives, using the Smart Board, etc. We do at least one of these strategies each day.

Study (Friday):
Mrs. Lowe assesses each student on the target skill. We fill in a graph of how many students were able to perform the skill. Then we make a "Plus/Delta," discussing what helped us learn and what could have been better.

Act (Friday):
We discuss what we will do next week to improve our learning, based on the students' feedback.

Our Strategic Learning Goal

By the end of the year, 100% of Mrs. Lowe's Kindergarteners will be 1st Place (Advanced) or 2nd place (Proficient) in Math, as measured by the Emerging Mathematics Survey. Mrs. Lowe will check what we know four times during the year.

Our Class Mission Statement

(created by the students)
to the tune of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"

We're at school to learn neat stuff,
We want to learn to read and write.
We have to follow directions,
And do what our teacher says.
And we have to use our brains,
So we can go to big schools!

Our Class Norms

(created by the students)

CCI

1. Be kind.

2. Follow directions.

3. Listen.

4. Be a problem solver.

5. Keep hands and feet to ourselves.
