How to Help on Homework
Research proves that children become better readers when their parents tutor them at home in reading! You can make your child a better reader!
How can you tutor your child?
1. Make it a habit. Students need to read for 20 minutes each day.
2. Don't just close the book and be finished! Talk with your child about the book. Reading is thinking!
Having trouble thinking of questions to ask your child before/during/after reading? Try some of these:
- Which character do you like best? Why?
- Which character do you like least? Why?
- Have you learned anything from this book?
- Can you picture the setting? What is it like?
- Is anything in this book like your life?
- Does this book remind you of any other book you’ve read?
- What is this book mainly about?
- Is this book easy, just right, or challenging for you?
- What do you like about this book?
- If you could change something about this book, what would it be?
- What is the problem or conflict in this book?
- What do you think will happen next?
Most of all, have fun spending quality time with your child!
