Auditor lauds district for financial accountability
November 17, 2010
The school board approved the independent auditor's report for the 2009-2010 fiscal year at its November regular meeting. Springfield Public Schools earned its 18th consecutive unqualified fiscal audit, meaning that the district met all standards of accounting principles accepted in the United States. The independent auditor likened it to SPS receiving an A+ on its audit. Fewer than 3 percent of Missouri's 520 public school districts receive an unqualified audit on the accrual basis.
Every year, SPS undergoes an independent audit to ensure the district's financial accountability and compliance with generally accepted accounting procedures. The complete audit report is available here.
Administration also provided an overview of the feedback collected as part of the 2011-2012 budget planning process and laid out a set of next steps. Read more about that report and the district’s next steps here.
The board also discussed revisions to the district’s strategic plan, SP5. Updates to the plan incorporate a means of assessing student readiness for college and the workforce. SPS will use a variety of metrics to asses that, including a survey of recent graduates.
The board voted to approve all items on the consent agenda which were presented and discussed at the Nov. 2 study session.
