May 15 Homework assigned: Page 600 Problems 10-24 Tables and functions. I asked the students to bring their math books to class to turn in tomorrow.
May 9 Review for test
Class assignment for today was to do at least 3 problems from each section on pages 492 to 494.
Test tomorrow is comprehensive of the chapter. I will make 3 versions of the test so you can decide how much challenge you want.
Additional review would be to work the Chapter test on page 495 or the additional problems for chapter 9 at the back of your text.
May 8 Homework assigned Page 460 problems 28-40. Brett Henry,Bayley Talburt, Cody Worthy, Emily Sollars, Zoie Bell, Logan McDonald, Robert Rios, Amber Kelly, Jagger Newman, Tyler Reagan, and Journey Drake bring your permission slips.
May 7 Homework assigned Page 484 Problems 19- 39 all classes, but section 1 also needs to do problems 40 and 41 and the Spiral Review on page 485 since they couldn't settle down enough to learn the lesson well and will need more practice. We are solving integer equations.
May 1 Homework assigned Page 475 problems 25-44. Multiply integers.
April 30 Homework assigned Page 468 problems 24-38 and page 472 problems 18-26. Adding and subtracting integers.
April 27 Homework Page 456 problems 18-47. Understanding integers.
April 23 Test over Chapter 8, sections 1, 2, 4, and 5. Students should review these concepts, perhaps using the extra practice problems at the back of the text.
April 17 Proformance testing today. The kids worked hard and everyone finished. We will get back on track the rest of the week.
April 12 Section 3 only Page 404 Problems 6-22 (Severe punishment for not being able to keep it even reasonibly quiet)
MAP TESTING IS OVER (except for make-ups) New unit is on ratios, rates, and proportions. Page 394 problems 11-32.
March 25 We are reviewing for the MAP test this week and will take the test next week. The test begin April 3 and go to April 6. Please take some time to review such things as multiplication and division with decimals, order of operations, etc.
March 12 I will give a test over chapter 10 on Wednesday, March 14. The students should work the review problems for chapter 10 in the student handbook section of their text. No homework other than review will be assigned until after the test. MAP tests will begin April 1. See an example here.
March 9 Page 536 problems 1-10. Volume of solids
March 8 Try yesterday's again.
These problems are complicated with many steps. The students should use a calculator to compute the arithmetic, but they need to write down the equations and keep the computations organized. Next week will probably be used for review for the MAP tests.
March 7 Homework assigned. Page 532 Problems 7-18. Finding the surface area of a cylinder.
March 5 and 6 We are studying what I consider to be the most difficult lessons for 6th graders, surface area. There are so many steps and so many concepts to learn that I am taking it slow. I will assign homework practice tomorrow after we've gone through the complete lesson.
March 2 No additional homework assigned, but many of the students need to redo the March 1 assignment. I will not accept a homework paper that doesn't first write down the appropriate equation and then show the work. I encourage the students to use calculators for this homework but they must show what the values were that they calculated.
March 1 Homework assigned Page 518 problems 6-15. Circumference and area of circles.
February 28 Worksheet 10-3. Absent students will need to ask for a worksheet for makeup.
February 27 Page 503 problems 13-17 and page 506 problems 11-16. Finding perimeter and area of polygons.
February 24 Tests are scored and on the gradebook. We are continuing to study geometry. The next lesson will be continuing finding area and perimeter. No homework over the weekend this time.
February 22 Test over chapter 7. No homework tonight.
February 21 Study guide for chapter 7 test.
February 15 Homework assigned Worksheet on graphing polygons on a coordinate grid.
February 14 Happy Valentine Day. I have not assigned homework for a couple of days because the lessons are primarily review for most of the students and the homework pages aren't real productive. We are studying transformations.
February 8 Homework assigned Worksheet 7-5. Classifying triangles and solving problems involving angles and side measurements of triangles.
February 7 No homework
February 6 Homework assigned Worksheet 9-3 Plotting coordinate pairs.
February 3 I handed back the Chapter 5 tests today and the grades are posted. Some students will be bringing home tests to correct for a C-. I hope parents will help with the corrections. I won't give credit for just answers since I went over all of the problems in class and gave the answers. A page showing how the problem was worked will be necessary. And...I know there are several ways to work the problems. IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE MY WAY. ( I was the mother of 6th graders, too.) No homework was assigned.
January 31 Test tomorrow. The students should study the review problems on pages 264-265-266, sections 1,2,3,5,7,and 8.
January 30 Homework assigned, Page 224 problems 28-42. The students will be tested on Wednesday, Feb. 1. over fraction operations.
January 26 Homework assigned Page 218 problems: first hour problems 19-41; third hour problems 19-36; fourth hour problems 19-39; fifth hour problems 19-36.
January 25 No homework assigned. Beginning to work with multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers.
January 24 Homework assigned Page 214 problems 25-45. Multiiplying fractions and the spiral review.
January 23 No homework assigned today.
January 20 Homework assigned Page 248 Problems 23-35. Sorry about the 10 days without assignments; I got a new computer and it's taken days to get it set up. We are adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers.
January 10 Test tomorrow over chapter 4 and 8-7, 8-8, and 5-6. These sections have concentrated on fractions and decimals.
January 5 Homework assigned: Page 421 problems 41-48 and page 424 problems 27-34. Changing between decimals, fractions, and percents.
January 3 Homework assigned: Page 184 problems 24-39. Convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions

December 12 No homework assigned today
December 8 Homework assigned: Page 158 problems 9-24. Prime factorization and factorization.
December 7 Worksheet on divisibility
December 5 Test was given and as I predicted, the division was a problem. I will let the students correct their tests today as much as they can. Don't be surprised if there are some tests sent home to correct for a C-. No new material was presented today so no homework assigned. Completion of homework is a factor in low grades in math. They really need to practice these new (and reviewed) concepts. Please make sure that the student has assignments completed. The next chapter is on divisibility and fractions.
December 1 I will give a test over Chapter 3 on Friday, December 2. The students should review; the majority of the students seem to have difficulty with long division. Maybe a parent could give them some coaching.
November 30 The students are to complete the first 4 sections of review on pages 144-145. Test over chapter 3 on Friday.
November 29 Homework Worksheet on area and perimeter. The formulas are A = length times width and P = 2(length + width). I will give a test over chapter 3 on Friday.
November 28 Only section 4 has homework assigned today. Page 129 Problems 21-36. No homework pages will be accepted without the work clearly shown.
November 22 Homework Page 129 Problems 21-36. Dividing with decimal divisors.
November 21 Homework Page 126 problems 19-33. Dividing decimals by whole numbers
November 18 Homework Page 122 problems 26-37 Still working on multiplying decimals and whole numbers by decimals. The number of digits to the right of the decimals in the problem determines the number of digits to the right of the decimal in the product (answer).
