School Profile:
- Pipkin Middle School was authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization as an IB World School to offer the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) in December 2009 along with Central High School. The IB MYP is a five year program that spans sixth grade through tenth grade. Students complete the first three years of the IB MYP in grades six through eight at Pipkin and then complete years four and five of MYP at Central High School in grades nine and ten. An IB education emphasizes international understanding, respect for differences, foreign language, inquiry learning, technology and community service. Anticipated enrollment for 2010-2011 is 560. Students enroll from across the Springfield district to participate in the IB MYP. (See page 70 for more information.)
- Pipkin also partners with Boyd Elementary School, Central High School and Drury University to implement Yale University’s School Development Program. The goal is to increase learning through the collaboration of parents, students, teachers and the community.
- Pipkin continues to teach students life skills included in the Boys and Girls Town Education Model. Our goal is to increase academic rigor based on supportive, positive and respectful relationships with each other and our students.
- Pipkin receives Title I federal funding that provides additional resources for our students and teachers in math and reading.
- Pipkin students eagerly participate in science Olympiad, science fair, math counts, and LADD Fair competitions.
- Our Partners in Education include Drury University, Central Assembly Church and individual community members.
