Truman Families:
Is anyone else out there ready for Spring? I know the teachers and students at our school are ready to usher in weather that is a bit more consistent than what we've had this winter! We have a most beautiful playground, but due to so many chilly days this winter, we've had a lot of indoor recess recently, and it's easy to see that the students are getting restless. Spring could come a bit early, and that would be just fine by us!
Many of our families will be signing up for and participating in a spring sport of some kind. At Truman, we host SPARC soccer on Saturday mornings during the spring, and we have a lot of Truman families that participate. I encourage each family to find an activitiy that their children like to participate in--especially if this activity gets them up and moving. It is so easy to lounge around on the couch and curl up with a big book, but we must remember that one key to staying healthy is to exercise, and a spring sport is a GREAT way to get some fresh air!
We will hold our annual kindergarten pre-registration on March 16th. If you, a friend, a neighbor, or family member have a child that will attend kindergarten at Truman in the fall, please plan to spend about 30 minutes here on the morning of March 16th. From 9-11:00 am, we will have special tables set up, many registration packets ready to hand out, and our secretary will be dedicating that morning to helping you get your child pre-registered for school. In order to pre-register your child for kindergarten in the fall, you will need the following items: copy of the child's birth certificate, copy of the child's social security card, immunization records from your child's doctor's office, and proof of your residence. Regarding proof of residence--this may only come in the form of a recent City Utilities Bill, a voter registration card, a current rental/lease agreement, closing papers on a home you've recently purchased, or certified mail. We are unable to accept documents such as credit card bills, cell phone statements, or other regular mail items. Proof of residence is required to prove that you live within the Truman School attendance boundaries. Your child will not be allowed to start kindergarten in the fall until all required items are turned in to the office.
As always, my office door is open. Don't hesitate to come see me or give me a call. We are lucky to be partnered with such a supportive community, and we welcome your input.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Stephanie Young, Principal (syoung124@spsmail.org)
